HOW TO MAKE IT ★

Print the letter pages and the picture pieces, ideally on card stock - plain paper works too. Laminate them, and the tracing lines wipe clean with a dry-erase marker. Cut out the pieces along the dashed lines and round the corners so they are soft for small hands. Put a hook-and-loop dot on the back of each piece and the matching dot in the middle of its shadow. Keep each letter's pieces in a small envelope or a zip pouch clipped into a binder. About an hour, once - then it is used again and again.

WAYS TO USE IT ★

One letter a day is plenty. Trace it with a finger first, then match the three pictures.

Say the sound, not just the name, as the picture goes on its shadow: "b-b-bear".

Start with the letters of your child's own name - they are the ones children learn first.

Mix the pieces of two or three letters and let your child sort them back to the right pages.

PRINTING ★

Print at 100 percent ("actual size"), not "fit to page". Use the US Letter file on letter paper and the A4 file on A4 paper - in both, every piece still covers its shadow exactly.

Is anything mailed to me? No. This is a digital download - nothing is shipped.

Do I need special software? No. It is an ordinary PDF. Any phone, tablet or computer opens it, and any home printer prints it.

Can I use it at school? Yes - use it with your own class freely. Please do not resell it or pass the files on to other teachers; send them here instead.
